The world of education is changing, and so are the needs of students. They are balancing work, family or just life in general. They are waiting for pandemic-related travel restrictions to lift so they can travel to their universities. From Asia to Latin America, they want a degree to hit the ground running as soon as they graduate. They want to level up and win the increasingly elusive promotions and impact the world for good.
Torrens University understands that, in 2021 and beyond, education has to be more flexible than ever to fulfil these aspirations.
This ambitious and innovative university with a bold vision is located in beautiful and dynamic Australian cities — it has campuses in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, and the Blue Mountains. It’s an institution that offers the finest of Australian higher education: industry-connected experts; teaching and research that is driven by curiosity and creativity; high-quality undergraduate, graduate, higher degree by research and specialised degree programmes in a wide range of academic disciplines; collaborations with government and non-government organisations; and many more.
“All of my tutors are from the industry, and their knowledge and experience are invaluable to us as students,” shares Bachelor of Business in Hospitality Management student Jenill Vadera from India. “The subjects in the course are very practical and based on what you would be doing when you are working in the industry.”
The best part is a student can access all of this online and on campuses. As the advantages of online learning become more widely documented, virtual offerings are attracting more students from all walks of life. By now, many employers are familiar with the rigorous coursework involved in online learning. They require hard work, excellent time management, dedication, self-motivation, the ability to work well with others through screens, and of course, the required skill set and knowledge in your discipline.
More than four in 10 (86%) online learners considered the value of their degree equal to or greater than the cost they paid to pursue it, according to an online education survey conducted by Learning House and Aslanian Market Research. Another 85% said that online learning is as good as or better than attending courses on campus.
When the pandemic struck Australia, Vadera’s programme shifted online. At first, he had some apprehensions — but that was quickly put to rest. “Initially, I was not a big fan of studying online as I believed that face-to-face lectures were more interactive,” he explains. “Now that I’m studying online, I have definitely been proven wrong. All the lecturers are very attentive and informative and they make the classes as interactive as they would in a face to face scenario.”
MBA of Global Project Management student Mattia Griggio agrees. “I found the online study an unexpectedly great experience, especially because I was never confident in the idea of online learning. However, thanks to the well-delivered online classes provided by Torrens University, I had to revise my original thoughts.”
One unique virtual campus, many offerings
Torrens University offers over 300 courses in Business, Design, Education, English language, Health, Hospitality, and Creative Technology. Many programmes are split into courses or modules that can be studied individually, and may be used as a credit towards a full qualification.
The university offers flexible entry options and study pathways. Many of Torrens University’s online students continue to work whilst they complete their studies. Being able to fit their programmes around their schedule is a huge perk. “I liked the way classes were structured, flexible in terms of timetables, and small in terms of the number of students attending the classes,” enthuses Griggio.
A comprehensive range of services helps students make the most of their learning experience. “Torrens University is an institution that offers a lot of online support,” shares Liane Peixoto, an international student from Brazil. “I always receive emails with information and guidance from the success coaches, as well as the student support.”
